Holboo is a traditional Mongolian vocal art form that originated around the 12th century A.D. It first spread throughout the Horqin and Harqin areas before extending to other Mongolian settlements in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and its surrounding provinces.
The art form features various styles, including solo singing, duets, and multi-person choruses. Holboo is characterized by an impromptu performance style with lyrics that are similar to traditional folk songs. On June 7, 2008, it was officially included in the second batch of the List of national intangible cultural heritage of China.
