Bayankhongor is the capital city of the Bayankhongor Province (aimag) in Mongolia. It also serves as the administrative center for the Bayankhongor Sum district, which is located within the same area.
Situated at an elevation of 1,859 meters above sea level, the city has a population of approximately 33,147 as of 2026. Roughly one-third of the total population of the Bayankhongor aimag resides in the city.
