Nay Pyi Taw, also romanised as NPT, is the capital and third-largest city of Myanmar. It is situated at the center of the Naypyidaw Union Territory. The city officially replaced Yangon as the administrative capital of the country on November 6, 2005, with its official name being revealed to the public on March 27, 2006.
The city is unique among Myanmar's urban centers because it is an entirely planned city rather than being part of any state or region. Prior to its designation as the capital, the area was known only as Pyinmana District.
