Yangon, also known by the romanized name Rangoon, is the capital city of the Yangon Region and serves as the most populous city in Myanmar. With a population exceeding five million people, it functions as the country's primary commercial center.

The city served as the capital of Myanmar until 2005. In 2006, the military government relocated administrative functions to Naypyidaw, a purpose-built capital located in north central Myanmar.
