Minbu is a city located in the Magwe Division of Myanmar. As of 2014, the city maintained an urban population of 22,962 residents.
The geography surrounding Minbu consists of low plain-land extending toward the Ayeyarwady River, which transitions into undulating inland country that rises westward toward the Arakan Mountains. A distinct range of hills known as the Nwa-Madaung hills runs north and south between the plains and the Arakan Yoma range. The region is served by several chief streams, including the Mon, the Maw, and the Salin, which are primarily utilized for irrigation.
The Ayeyarwady River at Minbu is approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) wide and features numerous islands and sandbanks. Significant fisheries exist along both the river and Paunglin Lake, a lagoon fed by the Ayeyarwady. While oil has been discovered near the mud volcanoes of Minbu, it is currently situated at a depth that makes profitable extraction unfeasible.
