Thaton is a town located in Mon State, situated on the Tenasserim plains in southern Myanmar. It serves as a regional point along National Highway 8 and is connected by National Road 85. Geographically, it is positioned approximately 230 kilometres southeast of Yangon and 70 kilometres north of Mawlamyine.
Historically, Thaton served as the capital of the Thaton Kingdom. This period of governance lasted from at least the 4th century BC until the middle of the 11th century AD.
