Loikaw is the capital and largest city of Karenni State in Myanmar. It is situated in the Karen Hills area near the northern tip of the state, positioned just above an embayment on the Pilu River.
The city's population primarily consists of Kayah, Kayaw, and Kayan (Karenni) people. A notable landmark in the region is Myanmar's largest hydropower plant, which is located approximately 20 km east of Loikaw at Lawpita Falls.
