Bhamo is a city located in Kachin State in northern Myanmar. Historically referred to as Man Maw or Hsinkai, it serves as the administrative center for both Bhamo District and Bhamo Township. The city is situated on the Ayeyarwady River, approximately 186 km (116 mi) south of Myitkyina, the state capital.
The town is located within 65 km (40 mi) of the border with China's Yunnan Province. The local population primarily consists of residents of Chinese or Shan descent, while Kachin peoples predominantly occupy the surrounding hills.
