Kidal is a town and commune located in the desert region of northern Mali. It is situated approximately 285 km (177 mi) northeast of Gao.
The town serves as the capital of both the Kidal Cercle and the Kidal Region. The commune covers an area of about 9,910 km² (3,830 sq mi) and encompasses the town of Kidal along with 31 other settlements.
