Dougabougou is a small town and rural commune located in the Cercle of Ségou within the Ségou Region of southern-central Mali. The commune encompasses an area of approximately 180 square kilometers and consists of the town itself along with six villages. According to the 2009 census, the total population of the area was 29,208.
The town is situated roughly 20 kilometers north of the Markala dam. A significant portion of the local economy is tied to agriculture; many inhabitants are employed in sugar production on land irrigated by the Office du Niger scheme. Specifically, a Chinese-Malian company operates a sugar production facility within the town.
