Mopti is a town and an urban commune located in central Mali. It serves as the capital of both the Mopti Cercle and the Mopti Region. The town is situated approximately 630 km northeast of the national capital, Bamako.
Geographically, Mopti lies within the Inner Niger Delta region at the confluence of the Niger and Bani Rivers. It is connected to the nearby town of Sévaré by an elevated causeway. The urban commune encompassing both Mopti and Sévaré recorded a population of 114,296 during the 2009 census.
