Bamako is the capital and largest city of Mali. As of 2022, the city has a population of approximately 4,227,569 residents.
The city is situated in the southwestern part of the country on the Niger River. It is located near the rapids that divide the upper and middle Niger valleys and is entirely surrounded by the Koulikoro Region.
