Skopje is the capital and largest city of North Macedonia. Located in the northern part of the country within the Skopje Valley along the Vardar River, it serves as the nation's primary political, economic, and cultural center.
The city covers an area of 571.46 km2 (220.64 mi2) and encompasses both urban and rural regions. According to the 2021 census, Skopje has a population of 526,502. It is bordered by several municipalities and situated in close proximity to the borders of Kosovo and Serbia.
