Podgorica is the capital and largest city of Montenegro. It is situated in a region characterized by predominantly mountainous terrain, located just north of Lake Skadar and in close proximity to coastal destinations on the Adriatic Sea.
The historical development of the city was influenced by its geographical position at the confluence of the Ribnica and Morača rivers. Its location also served as a meeting point for the fertile Zeta Plain and the Bjelopavlići Valley, which encouraged early settlement in the area.
