Tinghir is a city located in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of central Morocco. It is situated geographically south of the High Atlas mountains and north of the Little Atlas. The city serves as the capital of the Tinghir Province.
The name of the city originally referred specifically to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Over time, its geographical designation has expanded to encompass the surrounding villages and refers to the entire oasis area.
