Tamasna is a historical region in Morocco situated between the Bou Regreg and Tensift rivers. The territory encompasses several modern regions, including Chaouia, Doukkala, Abda, Rhamna, Sraghna, and Chiadma. Geographically, it is described as a plain country bounded by the Atlas Mountains to the south and the ocean to the north.
The region has a complex history of successive migrations and conquests. Originally inhabited by the Barghwata people, it was later settled by Bedouin Arabs following the Almoravid period. Historical accounts describe various shifts in power involving the Lamtuna, Zenata, and Hawwara confederations. By the early modern period, the Marinid dynasty granted the region to the Zenata and Hawwara, who established significant military and political control over the province.
