Fez, also known as Fes, is a city located in northern inland Morocco. It serves as the capital of the Fez-Meknes administrative region and is situated to the northwest of the Atlas Mountains. The city is surrounded by hills, with its old city center organized around the Fez River, which flows from west to east.

As one of the largest cities in Morocco, Fez has a population of 1.256 million according to the 2024 census. It remains a significant urban center within the country's northern geography.
