Misrata (also spelled Misratah or Misurata) is a prominent city located in northwestern Libya within the Misrata District. Situated on the Mediterranean coast near Cape Misrata, it lies approximately 187 km east of the capital, Tripoli. The city serves as the administrative capital of its district and is home to a population of about 881,000 people.
As the third-largest city in Libya, following Tripoli and Benghazi, Misrata is recognized as the country's economic and trade capital. Its maritime infrastructure includes a harbor located at Qasr Ahmad, which supports its role as a significant commercial hub for the region.
