Zilupe is a town located in the Ludza Municipality within the Latgale region of Latvia. Situated along the Zilupe River, it lies on the border with Russia. As of 2020, the town had a population of 1,343 residents.
The settlement first began to develop during the construction of the Ventspils-Moscow railway line in 1900. The original railway station was named Rozenova after a former landowner, and it served as the site for a small community of merchants and railroad workers. By 1908, the area already featured a school, a post office, and a police department.
Today, Zilupe's railway station serves as the final stop for the Riga-Zilupe train route, which is recognized as one of the longest passenger rail routes in Latvia.
