Diekirch is a commune with city status located in north-eastern Luxembourg. It serves as the seat of the canton of Diekirch and was historically the center of the district of Diekirch until that administrative division was abolished in 2015.
The town is geographically situated on the banks of the Sauer river. It remains a primary locality within its namesake canton in the northeastern region of the country.
