Mullaitivu is the main town of the Mullaitivu District, located on the north-eastern coast of the Northern Province in Sri Lanka.
Originally a largely fishing settlement, the town developed during the early twentieth century as an anchoring harbor for small sailing vessels transporting goods between Colombo and Jaffna. The area currently houses several government institutions, including a District Secretary's office, as well as numerous schools.
