Ratnapura, also spelled as Rathnapura, is a major city located in south-central Sri Lanka. It serves as the capital city for both the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Ratnapura District.
Situated on the Kalu Ganga, the city is positioned approximately 101 km (63 mi) southeast of Colombo, the nation's capital. Ratnapura is primarily recognized as a traditional center for the Sri Lankan gem trade.
