Kurunegala

Kurunegala is a major city located in Sri Lanka. It serves as the capital city for both the Kurunegala District and the North Western Province.

The city holds historical significance as an ancient royal capital, a role it maintained for approximately 50 years between the end of the 13th century and the start of the 14th century. Geographically, it is situated at the junction of several main roads that connect to other important regions across the country.

Kurunegala is located roughly 94 kilometres (58 mi) from Colombo, 42 kilometres (26 mi) from Kandy, and 51 kilometres (32 mi) from Matale.
