Dux

Liechtenstein

Dux is a city located in the country of Liechtenstein. The name "Dux" originates from Latin, where it historically served as a term for "leader." Over time, the word evolved to signify titles such as duke and its various linguistic variants.

During the Roman Republic and throughout the first centuries of the Roman Empire, the term dux was used to describe individuals who commanded troops. This included both Roman generals and foreign leaders; however, it did not constitute a formal military rank during that period.
