Byblos, also known as Jbail, Jebeil, Jbeil, or Jubayl, is an ancient city located in the Keserwan-Jbeil Governorate of Lebanon. It is recognized as one of the oldest cities in the world, with archaeological evidence suggesting the area was first settled between 8800 and 7000 BC and has been continuously inhabited since 5000 BC.
The city began to urbanize during the third millennium BC. Throughout its long history, Byblos served as a significant site for numerous cultures, including the Canaanite, Egyptian, Phoenician, Assyrian, Persian, Hellenistic, Roman, Genoese, Mamluk, and Ottoman civilizations. Due to its historical significance, it is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
