Thakhek is a town located in south-central Laos situated along the Mekong River. It serves as the capital of Khammouane Province and functions as the administrative center for the district of the same name.
The city is connected to Nakhon Phanom, Thailand, via the Third Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge. Construction on this bridge began in 2009, and it was officially opened on November 11, 2011.
