Zhalanash is a village located in south central Kazakhstan. Originally established as a fishing village on the Aral Sea, the settlement now sits several kilometers away from the coastline due to the sea's recession.
The area gained recognition as a tourism destination for its old harbor, which featured numerous ship hulls left standing in the desert by the retreating waters. However, as of 2017, these hulls were dismantled for scrap metal, leaving only their bottoms behind. The current economy of the town is centered on camel herding.
