Karatau is a city located in the southern part of Kazakhstan. It serves as the administrative center for the Talas region within the Jambyl Region.
The population of Karatau was estimated at approximately 30,000 in 1999 and decreased to 27,667 by 2019. The city is situated roughly 100 km to the northwest of Taraz, which is the largest city in the area.
