Karaganda, also known as Karagandy, is a major city situated in central Kazakhstan. It serves as the administrative capital of the Karaganda Region and is located approximately 230 kilometers southeast of the national capital, Astana.
The city ranks as the fifth-most populous urban center in Kazakhstan. According to the 2020 Census, its population was 497,777, reflecting a steady increase from previous census figures recorded in 1999 and 2009.
