Mangistau is a village and the administrative center of the Munaily District in the Mangystau Region of western Kazakhstan. It is situated in a desert environment on the Mangyshlak Peninsula.
The settlement is located approximately 20 kilometres (12 mi) east of Aktau and the Caspian Sea coast. As of recent data, the population of Mangistau is recorded between 12,433 and 14,818 residents.
