Bakanas is a village located in Kazakhstan that serves as the regional center of the Balkhash district within the Almaty region. It also functions as the administrative center for the Bakanas rural district.
Geographically, the village is situated at the final pier on the banks of the Ili River. To its north lies the ancient delta of the Ili-Bakanas river, which is currently part of the Saryesik-Atyrau desert territory. The area near the village also features the Akdalinsk massif, which was laid out in the 1970s and is noted as the world's northernmost massif.
