Savannah is a city located in the Cayman Islands. It serves as a geographic location within this island nation.
The term "savanna" also refers to a specific biome characterized by mixed woodland-grassland ecosystems. In these environments, trees are spaced widely enough that the canopy does not close, allowing light to reach the ground and support an unbroken layer of grasses and other herbaceous plants.
There are four distinct forms of savanna: savanna woodland, which features a light canopy of trees and shrubs; tree savanna, consisting of scattered trees and shrubs; shrub savanna, characterized by distributed shrubs; and grass savanna, where trees and shrubs are largely nonexistent.
