The Highway of Death is a six-lane highway officially known as Highway 80. It serves as a primary transportation route connecting Kuwait City to the Iraqi border town of Safwan, continuing onward to the city of Basra in Iraq.
The road gained its name due to its role during major military conflicts in the region. It was utilized by Iraqi armored divisions during the 1990 invasion of Kuwait and was later repaired following the Gulf War. During the initial stages of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the highway was used by U.S. and British forces.
