Gwangju

Gwangju, formerly known by its romanized name Kwangju, is a city located in South Korea. It serves as a regional urban center within the country's southern territory.

In July 2026, the city underwent a significant administrative change when it was merged with South Jeolla Province. This merger resulted in the creation of a new provincial-level city designated as Jeonnam-Gwangju.
