Buyeo is a city located in South Korea. The name is also associated with an ancient kingdom known as Puyŏ (or Fuyu in Chinese), which was centered in northern Manchuria in modern-day northeast China.
The historical kingdom of Buyeo had deep ties to the Yemaek people, who are considered to be the ancestors of modern Koreans. According to its founding legend, the region is also referred to as Northern Buyeo.
