Daegu, officially known as Daegu Metropolitan City (대구광역시), is a major city located in southeastern South Korea. It serves as the second-largest city in the Yeongnam region following Busan and is situated within the broader Daegu-Gyeongbuk area, which encompasses both the city and the surrounding North Gyeongsang Province.

The city is one of the nation's primary urban centers, ranking as the fourth-largest metropolitan city in South Korea with a population exceeding 2.3 million residents. It constitutes the third-largest urban agglomeration in the country after Seoul and Busan. Historically, the city was formerly spelled Taegu.
