Yeoju is a city located in the Gyeonggi Province of South Korea. Originally established as a county, it was officially elevated to city status in September 2013.
The city is recognized as a major center for contemporary South Korean ceramics, a distinction it shares with the neighboring city of Icheon. As part of this cultural significance, Yeoju hosts the World Ceramic Exposition annually. The region is also known for producing local agricultural products such as rice, sweet potatoes, and yellow melons.
Historically, Yeoju is noted as the birthplace of Empress Myeongseong, who was the last queen of Korea.
