Gunpo, formerly romanized as Kunp'o, is a city located in the Gyeonggi Province of South Korea. Situated south of Seoul within the Seoul National Capital Area, it shares borders with Anyang to the north, Uiwang to the east, and Ansan to the south and west.
The city is well-connected to its neighbors and the capital via lines 1 and 4 of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway. It also serves as a location for three stops on the Gyeongbu Line, a national railway connecting it to other regions of the country. While over 73% of Gunpo consists of greenspace—primarily due to Surisan and several smaller mountains—the city supports a population of more than 286,000 residents across various urban areas.
The downtown core of Gunpo is Sanbon New Town, which functions as a major commercial hub. This area features a pedestrian "street of culture," which the city has designated as one of its eight official scenic locations.
