Hoeryong

North Korea

Hoeryŏng is a city located in North Hamgyong Province, North Korea. It is situated on the border with China, positioned directly opposite Jilin Province with the Tumen River serving as the natural boundary between the two countries. The closest Chinese town across the river is Sanhe, located in Longjing City.

The city holds historical significance as the birthplace of Kim Jong Suk, who was the first wife of Kim Il Sung and the mother of Kim Jong Il. This heritage is commemorated at the Hoeryong Revolutionary Site, which marks her place of birth.
