Sinuiju

North Korea

Sinŭiju is a city located in North Korea that serves as the capital of North P'yŏngan province. It is situated along the Yalu River, directly facing the Chinese city of Dandong in Liaoning province across the international border.

The city is notable for its role in economic experimentation; part of it was included in the planned Sinŭiju Special Administrative Region proclaimed in 2002. This region was intended to serve as a site for introducing market economy practices. In recent years, the city has experienced a rise in tourism from China.
