Wonsan is a port city and naval base located in Kangwon Province, North Korea. Situated on the eastern side of the Korean Peninsula along the Sea of Japan, it serves as the provincial capital.
The city was previously known as Wonsanjin and its port was opened by Japanese forces in 1880.
