A baray is an artificial body of water that serves as a common architectural element within the Khmer Empire of Southeast Asia. These structures are characteristic features of the region's historical landscape.
The largest examples of these reservoirs are the East Baray and the West Baray, located in the Angkor area of Cambodia. Both structures are rectangular in shape, oriented along an east–west axis, and measure approximately five by one and a half miles.
