Irkeshtam is a city and border crossing located in southern Kyrgyzstan's Osh Region. It serves as a primary point of transit between Kyrgyzstan and the Xinjiang region of China. The location is named after a village situated on the Kyrgyz side of the international boundary.
The area is known by several names depending on the language, including Erkech-Tam in Kyrgyz and Uyghur, and Irkeshtam in Chinese and Dungan. While it is also referred to as Simuhana—named after the first settlement on the Chinese side of the border—Irkeshtam is currently the more common designation used by both countries.
