Balykchy

Kyrgyzstan

Balykchy is a town located at the western end of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan. Situated at an elevation of approximately 1,900 metres, the town covers an area of 38 square kilometres. As of 2021, its resident population was recorded at 42,875.

Historically, Balykchy served as a major industrial and transport centre during the Soviet era. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the town lost much of its economic base due to the closure of nearly all of its industrial facilities.
