Nakuru is the capital city of Nakuru County in Kenya. Located along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway, it sits approximately 160 kilometres (99 mi) from the national capital, Nairobi. In December 2021, the area officially became the fourth urban area in Kenya to be granted "city" status.
As of 2019, Nakuru had an urban population of 570,674 residents. It serves as a significant regional hub within its county and is a primary point along the major highway connecting it to the capital.
