Githunguri is an agricultural town located in Kiambu County within central Kenya's former Central Province. It serves as one of the administrative centers for the county and functions as a hub for local commerce, hosting a variety of financial institutions including KCB, Family Bank, Equity Bank, Absa Bank, Cooperative Bank, TAI Sacco Ltd, and GDC Sacco.
The town is notable for its dairy industry, housing Fresha, which is one of the largest dairy processing plants in East Africa. The facility is owned by a farmers' co-operative known as the Githunguri Dairy Farmers Cooperative Society. Additionally, the area is home to Githunguri Seniors, a sports team competing in Kenya football league division 2 Zone A for the 2023/2024 season.
