Isiolo

Isiolo is a town located in the upper eastern region of Kenya and serves as the capital of Isiolo County. Geographically, it is considered to be at the center of the country, situated approximately 285 kilometers north of Nairobi. The town originally developed around local military camps and currently sits along the A2 Road, which provides a route toward Marsabit and Moyale in the north.

The town has an estimated population of 78,250, with a significant portion of residents living on its outskirts. The demographic makeup primarily consists of Somali, Borana, and Ameru people, along with minority groups such as Turkana and Samburu. Recent urban growth in the area has been driven by migration from Moyale, Marsabit, and Mandera. Isiolo is also situated adjacent to the Shaba and Samburu Game reserves.
