Bungoma is the capital city of Bungoma County in Kenya. Located in the country's fertile Western region, the town sits at the foot of Mount Elgon, which is the second-highest mountain in Kenya. It was originally established as a trading center during the early 20th century.
The area surrounding Bungoma experiences some of the highest average rainfall in Kenya. Due to these favorable climatic conditions and fertile land, the region serves as one of the nation's most significant food baskets.
