Nairobi

Kenya

Nairobi is the capital and largest city of Kenya, situated in the south-central region of the country. It serves as a major urban center with a population of approximately 4.8 million people as of 2024, while its metropolitan area reaches a population of 5.7 million. These figures make it the eighth most populous city on the African continent.

The city is known by the nickname "Green City under the Sun" and derives its name from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nyirobi, which translates to "place of cool waters." A unique geographical characteristic of Nairobi is that it is the only capital city in the world that contains a national park within its official boundaries.
