Matsue is the capital city of Shimane Prefecture, located in the Chūgoku region of Honshu, Japan. As of March 31, 2023, the city had an estimated population of 196,748 residents living in 91,287 households. It covers a total area of 572.99 square kilometres (221.23 sq mi) with a population density of 340 persons per km2.
The city is notable for being home to the Tokugawa-era Matsue Castle. This structure is recognized as one of the last surviving feudal castles in Japan.
